Listen to My Podcast Conversation with Dr. Andrew Leeds about EMDR Therapy with Children and Teens
I recently had the pleasure of joining Dr. Andrew M. Leeds, Director of Training at Sonoma Psychotherapy Training Institute, on his podcast EMDR: The Science Behind the Therapy. Andrew’s show breaks down the latest EMDR research and what it means for clinicians, so it was a natural fit for a conversation about one of my favorite topics: EMDR therapy with children and teens.
What’s in the Episode
Episode 11 opens with Andrew walking through six key studies that trace how the research on EMDR with young clients has developed. From there, he and I dig into both the science and the practice: what the evidence tells us, and how EMDR can be adapted to meet kids and teens where they are developmentally. Andrew closes the episode with a look at a recently published study of young children that used defined protocols and fidelity ratings.
Extra Resources for Clinicians
If you want to go deeper after listening, Andrew’s June 2026 blog on SonomaPTI.com includes the full reference list with links to every study mentioned in the episode. You’ll also find a list of 14 books on EMDR therapy with children and teens, 5 EMDR grant funding sources, and information on advanced child and adolescent training with me.
